Leeds United ownership: “I predict a riot”.

band finding a just cause wagon.

As reported around the various media outlets….

“Kaiser Chiefs and The Pigeon Detectives have added their voices to those demanding to know details of who owns their favourite football team, Leeds United.

The club’s chairman Ken Bates and the Football League have not disclosed the identity of the off-shore owners of the club despite calls from polititians and fans to do so. Now the two Leeds bands have commented. Kaiser Chiefs played a gig at Elland Road, Leeds United’s ground, in 2008, with bassist Simon Rix now telling the Guardian that he believed the overwhelming majority of the club’s fans would want to know who owned their team. “I would definitely prefer to know who owns Leeds United,” he said. “The club is doing OK at the moment so providing the backers are financially stable, given what we’ve been through I’ll be happy. 99 percent of Leeds fans will want to know who owns the club.”

Fellow Leeds band The Pigeon Detectives told the newspaper, “Look at the predicament Portsmouth are in [the club are in administration] and how unsettling an effect the circus around ownership has had on the club. “The fans have the right to know where their hard-earned, spent on ticket fees and shirt sales, is going. It all sounds dodgy and shrouds the business dealings of the club in uncertainty.” The owners of the club, although anonymous, have been declared “fit and proper” to own the team by the Football League.”

Mr K W Bates has asked his friend Elton John to write a ditty for him to resposte called “Secrets of Monaco”….

Statement on the Guardian’s expose’ of our secret owners.

Love Leeds Hate Bates issues the following statement following today’s web articles on the ownership of Leeds United on the Guardian website.
In the summer of 2007 when Leeds United went into administration, Ken Bates threatened that, unless he got his way, he was willing to let Leeds United go out of business. At that point, he lost the support of a great many Leeds fans and we have seen nothing since to suggest we should change our minds.
Whether failing to keep our best players, reneging on promises to repurchase the Thorp Arch training ground after listing it as a priority, investing in pie-in-the-sky plans for a hotel complex, indulging his ego in failed court cases or picking fights with supporters groups, Ken Bates has proved himself to be unworthy of a position at the helm of Leeds United.
That he manages to further insult our intelligence by keeping the ultimate beneficiaries of our support hidden via the smoke and mirrors associated with the fund management of offshore accounts only serves to heighten the obvious disdain with which he ultimately views the fans of our great club.
We commend the Guardian for its attempts to expose the truth.
